A Coward's Tale

It is not exactly revealed Moon's reasoning behind telling his story the way in which he did. Was it so the listener would not pass judgement on him in the midst of the story or was it so he could pass judgement on himself without interference? I believe it was to enhance the mystery of the overall story. If there was a big reveal in the beginning of the story, the story would almost have no point and wouldn't really be a mystery at all. The way in which things are subtly revealed throughout the story without giving away too much and giving the mystery away completely is executed really well on behalf of the author and that takes great skill. The truth was not revealed to me until the author wanted me to know it and again that's due to the thoughtfulness of Borges. So instead of the way in which the truth is revealed being on the cowardice of the character itself, it is instead a stylistic choice made by the author in order to best suit his audience and it totally works out in the end, ultimately making it the mystery it is deemed as.
