Differing Opinions in the Library of Babel

It seems that the residents of the Library of Babel have very unique approaches to life. The library is supposed to represent the universe, so this is to be expected. Not everyone has the same concepts of reality. Some search for the book of ultimate meaning, which in my mind represents religion. This short story exaggerates the importance of religion because if you lived in a world constructed of infinite hexagons, you would be pretty desperate for an explanation too.

The narrator points out that even if you find a book that explains the universe, it could just be nonsense. This represents those who are skeptical of religion, as there is no definitive proof one way or another. To us, this seems ridiculous. In a universe made of hexagonal rooms that are all exactly the same, how could there not be a higher power? But, is our universe so different? Everything we know is made up of atoms, which are also smaller units. This goes to show how our perception of reality can influence our approach to life.

I also get the impression that the residents of the library don't associate with each other that much. They each do what they think they have to do, which reminds me of religious figures like monks isolating themselves and committing themselves to a certain ideology. This makes the narrator's perspective all the more interesting, as he is in the vast minority.
